Erin | Cheyenne Mountain High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2017

Erin is a vivacious, free-spirited high school senior at Cheyenne Mountain High School.  She plays saxophone with the band and competes on the field hockey team.  Outside of school, she loves hiking and English horseback riding.  For her senior portraits, Erin wanted to focus on great portraits of her in natural settings with some great rocks and water and stone walls.  Her preferences led us to match her to the location of Cheyenne Cañon.  It was a great fit, and her senior portraits showcase her natural beauty in gorgeous settings in the canyon.  Enjoy our favorites from her photography session.

Erin, we wish you a great final semester of high school and with all that lies ahead for you!

Skylar | Air Academy High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2017

We loved reconnecting with this family over the summer for Skylar’s senior portraits.  We first met them a few years ago when it was his older sister’s turn.  Skylar is an accomplished athlete and was especially excited to create portraits on the track.  His favorite event is the 300 hurdles.  I still smile when I think about how he also shared that he plays football for Air Academy High School “for fun.”  I’ve never heard of anyone playing competitive football “for fun!”  Skylar has big plans for his future – he’s planning for college and running track, and his career path is in aerospace engineering.

He choes our one-hour Senior Session and matched well with Monument Valley Park as his main location.  Jon really enjoyed creating dynamic track portraits at the end of the session.  Enjoy favorites from his senior photography session!

Megan | Air Academy High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2017

Our past year has held the hardest days our family has walked.  Our business reached it’s 10th anniversary in October, yet that was significantly overshadowed by our son, Tyler, receiving his perfect and forever healing from cancer in heaven.  We prayed for a healing here so that he would still be with us now, yet we trust in and find deep comfort knowing Tyler is healed and whole and in the best place possible.  We miss him so much.  Our business certainly looked different as we journeyed with Tyler through cancer treatments.  We’re so proud of him. Because our time and attention was rightly with Tyler through his journey, our blog has been quite quiet.  We’ll begin to share sessions again, beginning with Megan.

Megan’s is a special session. We believe God creates divine intersections between families, and this family intersected with our family this summer and shares a closeness through shared journeys.  Years ago, they journeyed with their oldest daughter, Melody, as she battled cancer.  Like Tyler, against what we humanly pray for, her healing too was given perfectly in heaven. When we met Megan’s family, Tyler was in the midst of his second treatment plan.  We connected quickly in a deep way from the shared journeys we have walked.  One of the sweetest aspects we love in our business is the relationships we build with our client families. We’re invited to capture incredibly important and special milestones and a part of us too is shared in the process.

Photographing Megan’s senior portraits has been such an honor. Megan dreams big and has a heart to love and serve those around her.  Faith, family, and service are important to her.  She’s active in ROTC and volunteered with the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for 5 years.  She aspires to study psychology and counseling hoping to address healing from PTSD when her career begins.

She chose our Senior Experience, multi-hour, multi-location session and matched well with Cheyenne Cañon, Mesa Overlook, and the Air Force Academy.  Favorites from her session are shared below.

Megan, congratulations to you for all of your hard work, accomplishments, and upcoming graduation from Air Academy High School.  You have a beautiful heart and wonderful dreams for your future.  We know your parents are so proud, and we pray you know that Melody is so very proud of you!

Dave Ramsey, Chris Brown, and Jonathan Betz Photography

Dave Ramsey is in town with Chris Brown for their live event tonight, and we are the photography team while they are here.  We enjoyed our time at the lunch event at Johnny Martin’s Car Central earlier today and love the message they teach about financial health that brings financial peace.  We have been listeners and followers of their sound advice, so it was quite an honor to meet both of them today.  They are both down to earth, caring, and passionate about guiding families to solid financial ground.

Thank you to KRDO for being the host station for Dave Ramsey’s “The Dave Ramsey Show” and choosing us for the event coverage today.

It’s especially neat to meet these men because Lindsay is beginning to speak to the photography industry with a message on “Focusing on Your Financial Future.”  Much of that message echoes in the teachings of these guys.  Currently she’s presented at the local and state level…looking ahead to the national convention in 2018!

Lindsay, you are a born speaker and presenter. Ramsey Solutions would be lucky to have you on the team!

Jonathan Betz - November 15, 2016 - 1:31 pm

The speaking isn’t specifically with Dave Ramsey and his team but to our industry of professional photographers. My message echoes much of what he teaches, and I’m excited to build up other photographers and their families by teaching solid financial practices. Thank you for your compliments, Susan!

Celebrating Our Son, Tyler

tyler-collage-web

Our son, Tyler, took his last breath last Friday, and with that breath, received full healing from the cancer he fought for almost a full year. Our hearts grieve that he’s not here to hug, tickle, and have in our presence, and yet we are covered in the peace that passes understanding and deep comfort knowing he’s healed and wholly restored. God chose to give him a forever healing. We could not be more proud of Tyler and the way his life reflected joy, compassion, courage, gratitude, open-handed living, and faith in a God who loves him even more than we do. Because of our firm foundation of faith, we walk in victory and we walk in hope.  We know that Friday was a heavy “see you later,” and not a “goodbye.”

We will celebrate his life this Friday, October 14th, and invite you to join us.  While Tyler was given a sprint and not a marathon, his life had a profound impact on many, many lives. He leaves us with a legacy that speaks to both older and younger generations.

Dear Jonathan and Family,

You probably do not remember who I am, but I attended a photography workshop you had at your house about 5 summers ago. Tim Hockersmith invited me to attend, and then my wife and I ran into you at a wedding you did for a friend.

I wanted to say how sorry I am for the loss of your son. I cannot imagine how difficult this time must be, but I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. I am praying that God will surround you in his love and give you comfort and peace during this time.

Sincerely,

David Brown

I met your beautiful family when my daughter, Aimee, had her senior pictures taken in Manitou. Tyler had just been born..maybe a couple weeks old. My heart goes out to your family and because I care..I share your sorrow..

Billie Bailey - October 12, 2016 - 2:23 pm

Dear Lindsey and family,
I am so sorry for each of you. My prayers are with you now and in the coming months. May God bless each of you with beautiful memories.

DickWoodhouse - October 12, 2016 - 7:52 pm

Hugs and love to you all, Jon. My heart has been with you through this journey.

Courtney Wohl - October 14, 2016 - 9:40 am

I met Jon the day before Tyler’s passing and would’ve never known, guessed or imagined what you had going on in your personal life. It’s hard to find words to express sorrow during times like these, but I am extremely sorry for the loss of your son. I also have a 6yr old little guy, who oddly enough was going to be named Brennan Tyler, but we went with a different middle name, and I just can’t imagine how you feel right now. My heart hurts for your whole family. I hope you all can find peace and healing with whatever outlet you choose.
My deepest sympathy,
Courtney Wohl

Kim Alan Cole - October 14, 2016 - 9:52 am

Jesus wept because He saw the pain that death brought to the hearts of the people, but than He raised Lazarus from the grave. For those that know Christ, their is pain for the loss here on earth, but joy and hope in knowing that there is a resurrection and one day His People will all be together again. My prayers are with your family and your testimony is a great witness.

Lynn and Ellen Davis - October 15, 2016 - 11:06 am

We are friends of the Schorrs in Lincoln and want you to know we understand your pain and your trust in God’s grace. Our son died last December 29. While he was 58 not a child, he was just as beloved and is just as missed. Pain is gone, they are free of cancer. God is good…always. our prayers will be with you now and always. Parents always have a tear in their hearts when the lose a child of any age.

Mike Sechler - October 15, 2016 - 1:04 pm

Betz family,

I have been where you are. Heck I still am where you are. Four years ago this week, my 11 year old son Micah went to be with Jesus. We prayed the same prayer for healing and got the same response from God. Micah is now healed and with his Savior.

Give glory to God in this moment and in the future, but remember that grieving is part of giving Him glory. Keep crying when you need to. (I did this morning when I watched some old video.)

When we grieve we are expressing our love for our kids. We are also acknowledging they are a good gift from God, and that the works is still broken.

I look forward more now to the return of Jesus when he makes all thing new. I declare with the Apostle John, Maranatha, Come Lord Jesus Come.

Esther Lee - October 16, 2016 - 2:37 pm

I just happened to look you up today and saw the news. Your family is a blessing to all of us watching from the outside how God is good in all our lives despite not getting the answer we would like. Thank you for being so transparent during this heavy time. What a moment it must have been to watch Tyler pass onto glory!
