Rob & Jenna’s Proposal! | Winter Engagement & Family Portraits at Garden of the Gods

Happy Valentine’s Day!  With love in the air, it’s a perfect time to post amazing portraits from Rob & Jenna’s engagement and family portraits photography session!  Rob worked with us quite a bit behind the scenes to plan all the details to surprise Jenna.  While we’ve photographed a handful of proposals for couples over the years, this one was done in a way that created some of the best portraits.  In the past, all of our proposals have required a lot of planning and keeping Jon “hidden” while photographing the proposal.  In contrast to those experiences, Rob told Jenna he’d won a raffle for a photography session.  When they came in for the pre-session consultation, we congratulated them on their “win” and included her in the session planning.  By letting her be a part of the planning, we built the session with her preferences.  Because the session itself wasn’t a surprise, she looked her best, and they could coordinate their attire for cohesive, timeless portraits.  And again, since she was expecting a photography session, Jon’s presence was expected, and he was able to place them in a picture-perfect setting.  Everything went as planned, and Jenna was completely surprised when Rob proposed at the start of their session!

We LOVE their session portraits.  Within our typical one-hour session, we did a LOT!  We captured family portraits, portraits of Rob’s son, the proposal and all the accompanying emotional moments and memories, and a lot of fun, playful moments with all of them on a beautiful, wintery February day.

CONGRATULATIONS, ROB & JENNA!!  We’re so excited for you!!

The Webster Families | Winter Fun with Multi-Family Portraits in Allenspark, Colorado

As we enjoy our second snow day, cozied up by the fire, and look out at our 12+ inches of new snow, we thought it fitting to post some favorites from a wintery, multi-family photography session up in Allenspark (Estes Park), Colorado.  We had a great time with this post-Christmas session, and not just because destination sessions are a lot of fun.  It’s always special when we are invited to continue to photograph a family’s important moments in life.  One of the families in this session is a great client family of ours here in Colorado Springs and has been with us for family portraits and high school senior portraits over the years.  When all the families were gathering in Allenspark for Christmas and wanted to have professional portraits taken, this family referred us – and it was such an honor to be there for all of them!  Jon provided both indoor and outdoor portraits during the session.  The cabin is the “family cabin,” so having portraits in a setting that holds so many memories over the years adds significance to the indoor portraits.  The outdoor portraits feature the winter beauty and always bring out the fun and a lot of personality.  We love the variety and the deep meaning captured in these family portraits and know these families will treasure their portraits for years to come.

Makenzi | Liberty High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2016

Makenzi is an adventurous high school senior with a love for being active in the outdoors in all seasons – in winter she loves skiing and snowboarding and during warmer months, she enjoys backpacking, hiking, camping, and rock climbing.  Clearly a beautiful, natural setting was a great fit for her high school senior photography session.  We matched her with Red Rock Canyon – it’s a great location for variety and beauty, and Makenzi loved that it’s not quite as iconic as views in Garden of the Gods.  We love how Makenzi incorporated two completely different “everyday” look outfits and then contrasted those with a gorgeous formal dress.  Our high school seniors are able to use as many outfits as they can fit into the session time, and it is highly encouraged to have outfits that provide both a variety of colors as well as a variety in style and formality.  Embrace opportunities to bring formal dress into the rustic settings – we love it!

Lewis Family | Colorado Springs Family Portraits at Pulpit Rock

What an honor to take this family’s first-ever family portrait!  We’re excited to share favorites from this fun session on a very brisk winter day.  Winter photography sessions are certainly best for families whose kids are at least late elementary age or older – temps are always on the cold side this time of year, so these winter sessions aren’t for everyone.  However, they are really fun, feature snow-capped mountains, and it’s certainly an easier time of year to get a spot on our schedule.  The Lewis Family loved the idea of a more active session, and we loved matching them with Pulpit Rock.  We love that Pulpit Rock provides both city and mountain views, “top of the world” settings, and a completely different color palette in the rock formations.  We’re so excited for them to have these awesome family portraits to hang in their home and enjoy for years to come.

Jake | Liberty High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2016

We’ve so enjoyed getting to know Jake and his family, and I had to laugh when we met for the first time.  Jake was just so familiar and yet I was fairly certain we’d not met prior to his pre-session consultation.  As we talked and started to get to know him, he mentioned that he was involved with theater at Liberty High School.  It clicked – I was talking with Pinocchio from last Spring’s production of “Shrek!”  🙂

In addition to his involvement in theater, Jake is President of the National Honor Society for Spanish and lifeguards during the summer months.  He’s organized and serious yet also fun and social.  He also volunteers at Rock Ledge Ranch, making that a perfect location for his photography session.  We love connecting a senior’s unique experiences and interests into their photography, and we love that regardless of where life takes him in the future, Jake will be able to connect to memories from high school when he looks back at these portraits.

He’s planning on college in the Fall and will be attending the alma mater of his parents.  What a neat legacy!  He knows he’ll pursue something in healthcare.  From what we’ve seen, he’s got the perfect personality to work with people and bring health and healing.
