The Bobonis Family | Family Portraits Adventure Session in Garden of the Gods

The Bobonis family had a great session a handful of weeks ago and chose to do our Adventure Session. These 90-minute sessions add an element of hiking and bring settings for the portraits that happen when you leave the “beaten path” of our one-hour sessions. The Bobonis Family had a great time making memories and creating gorgeous family portraits to decorate their home. The location of Garden of the Gods appeals to so many families who are excited to bring the beauty of our outdoors to their indoors. Garden of the Gods boasts those iconic red rock formations, rustic trails and fields, and the backdrop of Pikes Peak.

Like most of the families who choose us, they fell in love with Jon’s photography and desired a full-service experience that ends with amazing wall art for their home. We just delivered their 3-piece canvas art wall collection (sized as 36×24, 16×16, and 16×24); custom 16×20 storyboard, small gift prints, and cards [pictured below at the bottom of this post]. One of our favorite aspects of photography is the longevity of our work – these portraits will be enjoyed for years to come, not just by the current generations of this family, but extending to the future generations. It’s an immense honor.

Legacy in the New Year with Jonathan Betz Photography | Picture Restoration and Archival Services

Legacy is the foundation of our photography business. It’s the piece that drives the families who choose us to choose us. We’re not about clicking the shutter and handing a family an impersonal CD/USB with a to-do list of unfinished art. Our families invest time and effort in the preparation, planning, and for the session itself. That time and effort is honored best when the experience with us ends with the unveiling of finished art in the form of professional prints, framed wall art, canvas or metal pieces, and albums. Every single time, I hear comments of, “These are so much better in person,” and “Wow…it’s so different now that I’m holding these portraits.” There is an inherent value in tangible legacy that cannot be matched by digital media.

That being said, so many of us have tangible legacy in the form of prints from decades ago that may be in need of restoration or archival services that we can provide. We all want to safeguard our legacy, and we can be your trusted partner in this.

Last year, we had the opportunity to complete a restoration project for a much-loved client family from Texas who has used us for senior photography for all three of their daughters. They called about a restoration project for a priceless portrait from past generations and said, “There’s no one else we trust with this.” They hand-delivered their precious portrait and entrusted us with the restoration.

You’ll see the original (including a piece torn completely off on the lower left side) on the left and then two different restored portraits. Jon felt it important to provide both one restored but still consistent with the coloring the family has seen and enjoyed but also a true black and white as it’s highly possible the true original portrait would have reflected black and white tones. It was a true honor to provide these priceless services to this family as well as provide printed portraits for them to cherish now and for the future generations.

Also last year, we had a project for another much-loved client family here in town. The mom had been visited her ailing mother one day and found her throwing away decades of family pictures. She was able to rescue a large box of irreplaceable memories. After her daughter began the process of archiving to digital format the pictures, the amount of archiving was just too much to complete before college resumed. We were able to complete the job of archiving and cataloging over 1200 family pictures.

We cannot describe the honor we felt to be entrusted with this project. Within the 1200+ pictures were some dating back all the way to the Civil War and a handful of tintypes (metal prints dating from the late 1800s). We had such respect for the legacy preserved and for the way that we felt that we discovered the values and personality of these generations of our client’s family in the stories told in the pictures. We wanted to share with you some of our favorites from the older decades of photographic legacy we archived.

Klara | Rampart High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2018

Klara is a well-rounded, free spirited, people-person and is about to enter her final semester at Rampart High School. She adores her German Shepherd mix, Kleo, loves to read and be creative, and loves spending time in the mountains. Riding horses and hiking are favorite activities in the Colorado outdoors. At school, she’s active with the poetry club and journalism and plays tennis and softball. She’s exploring a variety of possibly careers from vertrinary sciences or forensics to the arts.

Her mom is a professional photographer [Precious Encounters Photography] who specializes in newborn and children sessions. She wanted a photographer specializing in high school seniors for Klara’s senior portraits, and we are honored that she chose to come to us! They loved our Senior Experience multi-hour, multi-location session and added the After Dark upgrade. Her session explored Red Rock Canyon and Old Colorado City. Her photography sessino created amazing and dramatic senior portraits, and we’re excited to share some of our favorites here…

John | Doherty High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2018

John is about to enter his final semester of high school at Doherty High School where he’s been active playing trombone in both marching and conert band. He loves reading and playing video/computer games when he’s not in school. As a family, they love hiking and fishing in our Colorado parks and open spaces. When high school ends, John is looking ahead to college in the fall and plans to pursue a degree in the medical sciences, either bio-engineering or bio-medical.

For his senior session, he chose an urban setting of Downtown Colorado Springs.  We always enjoy the addition of items representing each high school senior’s interests and activities, and we love the inclusion of John’s trombone and love for books he brought to the session. We’re excited to share favorites from his one-hour session!

The Shadle Family | Family Portraits in Garden of the Gods

We love that we can photograph outdoors year-round in Colorado Springs! When winter months begin, we often will choose Garden of the Gods as the location for family sessions because it’s beautiful in every season. The Shadle Family was excited for family portraits as their kids are both in high school, and the last family portraits go back to when the kids were early elementary age. Their oldest is a senior this year, and that is a popular time to create a family portrait before the big transition after high school graduation. It’s a big milestone and great to have portraits that represent the years when everyone is in the home together.

Enjoy our favorites from a wonderful family session that created legacy of a beautiful family in the natural beauty of Colorado Springs!
