Lewis Family | Colorado Springs Family Portraits at Pulpit Rock

What an honor to take this family’s first-ever family portrait!  We’re excited to share favorites from this fun session on a very brisk winter day.  Winter photography sessions are certainly best for families whose kids are at least late elementary age or older – temps are always on the cold side this time of year, so these winter sessions aren’t for everyone.  However, they are really fun, feature snow-capped mountains, and it’s certainly an easier time of year to get a spot on our schedule.  The Lewis Family loved the idea of a more active session, and we loved matching them with Pulpit Rock.  We love that Pulpit Rock provides both city and mountain views, “top of the world” settings, and a completely different color palette in the rock formations.  We’re so excited for them to have these awesome family portraits to hang in their home and enjoy for years to come.

Jake | Liberty High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2016

We’ve so enjoyed getting to know Jake and his family, and I had to laugh when we met for the first time.  Jake was just so familiar and yet I was fairly certain we’d not met prior to his pre-session consultation.  As we talked and started to get to know him, he mentioned that he was involved with theater at Liberty High School.  It clicked – I was talking with Pinocchio from last Spring’s production of “Shrek!”  🙂

In addition to his involvement in theater, Jake is President of the National Honor Society for Spanish and lifeguards during the summer months.  He’s organized and serious yet also fun and social.  He also volunteers at Rock Ledge Ranch, making that a perfect location for his photography session.  We love connecting a senior’s unique experiences and interests into their photography, and we love that regardless of where life takes him in the future, Jake will be able to connect to memories from high school when he looks back at these portraits.

He’s planning on college in the Fall and will be attending the alma mater of his parents.  What a neat legacy!  He knows he’ll pursue something in healthcare.  From what we’ve seen, he’s got the perfect personality to work with people and bring health and healing.

Aubrey | Pine Creek High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2016

Aubrey has a vibrant personality and is a girl with many talents!  She loves art, creative writing, and plays piano.  She’s also athletic and loves competing in volleyball and also backpacking in the mountains.  She’ll be continuing her volleyball when she heads East for college to study psychology.  Photographing Aubrey’s senior portraits was bittersweet for us and her parents – we’ve photographed two of her older siblings, and she’s the youngest, so this was the last round of senior portraits we’ll do for this awesome family.  Each of her siblings has hiked Mt. Cutler as the main portion of the session, and in addition to continuing this tradition, Aubrey also chose downtown Colorado Springs for her portrait settings.  Enjoy favorites from a session with a really special family.

Veronica | Cheyenne Mountain High School Senior Portraits | Class of 2016

Veronica is a happy, optimistic, and hard-working high school senior who loves to laugh!  She loves the outdoors and art and run both cross country and track with Cheyenne Mountain High School’s teams.  Her hard work and time invested in her studies should serve her well when she begins college in the Fall – she aspires to a career in biomedical engineering and medical school.  Veronica chose our multi-location Senior Experience session and matched well with Cheyenne Cañon, Red Rock Canyon, and Old Colorado City for her photography locations.  One of her biggest requests was for portraits with sunflowers – we’re glad we could deliver some great options for her featuring these beautiful flowers!

Giving Back to Our Industry | Professional Photographers of America & Jonathan Betz Photography

FullSizeRender

We arrived in Atlanta, GA yesterday!  Each year, we are committed to being a part of the photography industry’s largest convention that is organized and led by the oldest, largest, and most-committed organization, Professional Photographers of America (PPA).  In addition to attending convention for our 9th year, I’m both honored and excited to be a newly-elected Council Member for the state of Colorado.  Colorado is represented by three council members, and the council is charged with (1) protecting PPA by maintaining the Bylaws, (2) electing quality leaders to the Board of Directors, and (3) being the ambassadors of PPA.  We love being one of the 29,000 members of this amazing organization, and I can’t wait to give back and learn more about the heart of PPA as I dive into Council!
