Garden of the Gods | Winter Family Portraits

As you might imagine, Garden of the Gods is one of the top requested places for portrait sessions and why not?! It’s just gorgeous there, and I never tire of the beauty throughout the entire area. And I’m so thankful that it’s a protected area in our city…otherwise, it’d likely be a golf course! No offense to golfers, but I’m glad that everyone can enjoy such a fantastic place! Jon has some favorite places he loves to take families for their pictures during their sessions, but it’s pretty amazing how much variety and opportunity are all in one place. Enjoy a whole bunch of favorites from a handful of sessions we did at Garden of the Gods during late November and December!

This session was really fun because Lauren and I were in the same small group for our women’s study at Woodmen Valley Chapel this past fall. Being newer to Colorado Springs, they wanted to have fantastic family pictures to show the beauty of Colorado Springs, so what better place than here?

The day of the Water’s session was windy, cold, and spitting some rain, and yet, the dramatic sky is just amazing and doesn’t happen on a sunny, perfect day…it’s one of those times that embracing the weather truly makes for a unique, dramatic portrait.

The Waters family has a family picture in this same pose from when their kids were very young – we LOVE telling a part of a family’s story and history during their session…

I love the “king of the world” spirit of Justin in this picture! With our son, Tyler, trying to climb up and onto all things high at the mere age of 16 months, I imagine that he’ll love opportunities to climb all over Garden of the Gods as he gets older (and I might have to get a little braver…).

Meet Elkan! | Maternity and Newborn Baby Portraits

Welcome to the world, Elkan! It has been so much fun to photograph Dave and Michelle again and be a part of celebrating the birth of their first child! We photographed Dave and Michelle’s wedding on the 4th of July in 2009 and just love their family. We did an outdoor “mini-session” for maternity portraits at Cottonwood Creek Park just before he was born (on a really cold day!!) and then photographed his newborn portraits just a couple weeks after he was born. And he ended up being completely alert and awake for his whole session, which just does not happen much with newborns. He obviously is already quite interested in his world!

Congratulations again, Dave & Michelle! We’re so excited for you guys to be on this crazy and wonderful journey of parenthood!

Family Portraits at Red Rock Canyon Open Space

Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a great area that many people have never been to, so it’s fun to take people to places they’ve never been in town for their family pictures!  In Red Rock Canyon, you have a little feel for the red rocks similar to Garden of the Gods but it has a completely different feel and with far less people than Garden of the Gods.  We love afternoon hikes through the many trails in the area, and there are great views overlooking Garden of the Gods and Colorado Springs city and beyond.  Here are favorites from two late fall/early winter groupon sessions at Red Rock Canyon…

The Musacchia family moved here from Louisiana, and love LSU. They used their session as a time to tell part of their family’s story of arriving to the mountains from LA…LSU colors with mountain scenes in the background. They serve our country in the Air Force and nicknamed themselves “mountain tigers” (LSU’s mascot is the tiger, in case you didn’t know…). And we look forward to seeing them again this summer for a second session!

Newborn Mia & Big Brother Sonny | Baby Portraits

Not much can be better than a precious new baby! Even though Jon and I are feel our family is complete with Natalie and Tyler, there’s just something so precious about a newborn, and Mia was such a reminder of this! We were delighted that this family found us through our groupon deal…it’s been so fun to photograph their family and celebrate their newest! And we’re sure Sonny is proud to be a Big Brother!

Enjoy our favorites…
